Lagos, Nigeria — The 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) lit up the Eko Events Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos on 12 January 2026, bringing together Africa’s biggest stars, producers and industry innovators for a night celebrating the continent’s vibrant music scene.


The Big Winners of the Night

  • Rema emerged as the evening’s biggest victor, taking home three major awards, including Best African Artiste, Duo or Group in African RnB & Soul, Best Male Artiste in Western Africa, and the Artiste of the Year title — highlighting his continued rise both locally and internationally.

  • Shallipopi also had a standout night, clinching Best African Collaboration for “Laho II” (feat. Burna Boy) and Song of the Year for his hit single Laho.

  • Burna Boy, a global ambassador of African music, won Album of the Year for his critically acclaimed No Sign of Weakness, beating stiff competition from Davido, Kelvin Momo and others.


Other Highlights

  • Yemi Alade took home Best Soundtrack in Movie, Series, or Documentary, and Phyno won Best African Artiste, Duo or Group in African Hip-Hop.

  • Most Promising Artiste of the Year went to up-and-coming stars Qing Madi and Valorant for “EGO”, and Ethiopian artist Weeha claimed Best African Dance/Choreography.

  • Legendary figures Kenny Ogungbe and Dayo Adeneye were honoured with Lifetime Achievement Awards for their lasting impact on the music industry.

The gala event, broadcast live in over 84 countries, featured electrifying performances from a lineup of top talents — including Falz, Phyno, Patoranking, Kunmie, Gaise Baba and more — showcasing Africa’s eclectic musical diversity and global reach.
